Birthday, dinosaurs, dance, and other misc.

For my birthday this year, Trevor planned a short getaway to Grand Junction.  It was about 24 hours because of  my piano teaching schedule, but we got to do some fun things. We left right after I got done teaching and went straight to Olive Garden for dinner. Afterwards, we went out for dessert and then back to the hotel for the night. The next morning, we got ready and went and had our family pictures taken. This was such a great present for me... we've had our pictures taken before, but I'm horrible and never get any ordered/printed out. They are all online and available to order, I just lack the decision making skills to choose from so many shots. We had these pics taken at JC Penney this time, which forced me to make a decision right then and there. And I'm so glad I had to. Now I actually have to family pictures hanging on our walls.

On the way home, we stopped at the dinosaur museum in Fruita. Nolan really liked it, but Kaydance was pretty timid at first, especially when we saw the robotic ones. We thought they were pretty cool, but she just wanted to stay in the sand pit thing and uncover the bones.

At the beginning of May, Kaydance had her spring dance recital. She had 2 dances this time, and did alright with both of them. I think she was too busy looking for me and Trevor and her grandmas to do the dances. She knew them and would do the whole thing in her class though. Maybe she just gets stage fright?

Kaydance is the 2nd from the left (in the back) and then moves to the 4th from the left about half way through.

Lastly, I was just going to share some cute pictures from the past few months.

I cut Kaydance's hair for the first time in her life a few weeks ago. She loves it, and I think it turned out really cute!

This video just cracks me up. She has the cutest voice ever, and tries so hard to have cool sound effects. (Sorry it's so dark)

catch up/ back track

My life is crazy busy it seems like. Or maybe I just enjoy playing with my kids too much to actually sit down and write a blog post... either way, I've decided today's the day.

I can not believe how fast my kiddos are growing. Looking back at pictures from a few months ago, they have already changed so much. I love it, but I already miss it (a little). Back in March we spent Easter with my family on a hike up Hidden Valley. It was really fun and great weather. And can I just say, Trevor is the best husband ever. On the way back down, he was packing Kaydance, who had fallen asleep, on his back. I had Nolan in the baby carrier, and once he fell asleep too, he was flopping all over the place. So Trevor took him and carried both kids down the trail. That's like 50 lbs, people!!

Afterwards, we went back to my parents house and had an egg hunt. Kaydance was so excited that she found a pink egg, her favorite color!

Easter morning was fun and the kids got some new clothes, some toys, and candy from the Easter Bunny.(I love messy hair pictures from first thing in the morning!)

In April, we decided to go for a picnic and drive out behind the rocks and do some exploring. We bought Trevor a little Ford Explorer Sport so he wanted to try it out. Trevor found this awesome place that's right on the edge of the cliff. He promises me we're going back to camp there sometime. It was a little windy, but the kids loved playing in the dirt and we had a great time as a family.

 My two favorite boys!

Kaydance climbed all the way to the top of this hill without help from Trevor. She is a little monkey!
I think that's enough for one post, I'll be posting another soon, to continue to catch up. I promise.

The Gauntlet

About a week ago, Trevor heard an ad on the radio for an obstacle course race called "The Gauntlet" and thought it sounded interesting. We watched some videos from previous years and decided to give it a shot. I'm so glad we did... it was so fun!! It was a 5K race at the Grand Junction Motor Speedway. There was lots of ups and downs, and some pretty steep hills that were nigh impossible to run up. And throughout the race they had different 'obstacles' - cement pipes to crawl through, fences to climb, mud pits to low crawl through, huge tree stumps to go over, syrup covered tarps to slip through, tire hills to climb, holes to jump in and out of, and a LONG STEEP MUDDY hill to slide down. They were also launching water balloons at you, spraying you with fire hoses, and dumping flour on you. It was awesome.

Trevor has been running a few times a week and so he was somewhat prepared for the running part. I, on the other hand, have not been training at all, and was pretty nervous about the running. Despite my unpreparedness, I was laughing and smiling the whole way through. I slipped plenty of times, and had to walk more than I would've liked to, but I did it, and I didn't come in last (which was my goal)! I even passed some people - which NEVER happens!!

This is what you get when you have long hair and thick clay/mud
And this is what you get when you slide down a steep mud hill and bounce off a rocky part

These are some of my battle wounds, which don't look nearly as bad as they feel. But despite my scrapes and bruises, I'm excited and looking forward to doing it again next year.

I'm a slacker

I must admit I get on the computer quite frequently. Do I blog... heaven's no. I spend most of my time looking at everyone else's blogs. I've gotten behind so I'll do a little update of February.

We had a few days that were almost warm and I ventured out with the kids to the park. Kaydance loves to be "tricky" on the slide and is constantly wanting to show me new ways that she can go down. I think that's her favorite thing to do at the park.

Did I mention that I LOVE that my kids have red hair?

I planned our Valentine's Day date this year. I did a "tie" theme. I unwound almost a whole skein of yarn throughout the house and Trevor had to follow it to get his gifts. I got him a movie and a new tie. He gave me Train's two newest CD's. I love them.

We went to dinner at the Thai restaurant in town.
Nolan turned one at the end of the month. I was going to be gone for a dental convention on his birthday, so we celebrated a few days early. I love this little guy so much. I can't believe he's been around for a year already... where did the time go?

This was my first attempt at making a pull-apart cake. I don't know why I've never tried it before... it worked out great. It is way easier for me to decorate/make shapes than trying to draw something on a rectangle cake, and you get way more frosting this way... that's my kind of cake!!

We had both our families over for a little party and the kids all loved it. I love living by so much family. We are so blessed!
